7 Useless car upgrades that you'll probably never use
In this internet era, new cars are, most likely, the biggest high-tech toy you’ll own, unless you're a millionaire and own a helicopter or a private jet. Like every item sold, cars also have features that are underwhelming, frustrating, or just plain pointless.
As cars have evolved, they got more and more technology into them. And while a lot of the technology is useful and cool, plenty of it over the years has not been too helpful. If we are being brutally honest, a lot of the technology in cars has been placed there simply because engineers could squeeze it into the vehicle and manufacturers could then charge a premium for it.
Night Vision on Monitor
Probably a feature that is more distracting then useful. Night vision is a seriously wonderful concept, but today's applications are useless. If these were in HUD setups, that would be one thing, but the display is on the dash, forcing you to take your eyes off the road.
Useless car upgrades: Paddle shifters
What the heck is the point of this feature? You already have an automatic car, just put on drive and GO! Paddle shifters are used in automatic transmission cars as a compromise that would give people the feeling of manually shifting gears in the car without having to use a clutch and grinding the gears.
The only problem is that this technology was completely unnecessary in an automatic transmission car that shifts gears all by itself. Furthermore, people have to hit the paddle shifter at the perfect moment or the car would just ignore the manual command from the driver. D'oh!
Automatic Moisture Sensing Windshield Wipers
It seemed like a great idea to create completely automated windshield wipers that sense moisture in the air and come on when it rains, adjusts their speed automatically based on how hard it is raining. The only problem was that the sensors had a hard time adjusting to rain that was not consistent or intermittent.
Just like the automatic headlamps, the auto wipers are utterly over-hyped features that can be ignored. It increases the complexity of the system and if they break, you will have to shell out a lot to repair them.
Social Media Integration
OK, anyone else thinks that this is the stupidest idea ever? You don't need to post to Twitter, Facebook, or whatever when you're driving. WTF? they are trying to kill us on purpose?!
Useless car upgrades: Motorized seat belts
An Idea that helped some lazy Americans become a little more lazy! Luckly it was an idea that was quicly dropped just for being so stupid.
While motorized seat belts were considered a cool feature in the early 1980s when first introduced, people quickly realized that they were ridiculously slow and cumbersome. Today, motorized seat belts are often featured in comedy movies as a sight gag where a person in a hurry has to sit and wait for their motorized seat belt to slowly crawl across their body and lock in place before they can take off in their car.
I always had this crazy idea that sunroofs were invented for people who couldn't afford a convertible! What is the point of this feature, please someone explain? I have Air Conditioning, 4 electric windows, what do I do with a sunroof?
Voice commands and controls
A useless feature if you have an accent or don't have flawless speech!!! See the video above translated and laugh out loud. It will clearly show you what do we mean!!
